In Loving Memory:
The Reverend Thomas Dwight Linton
The CFK family grieves the loss of board member Thomas Dwight
Linton, “Uncle Dwight”, who went to be with the Lord
following a traffic accident on January 11, 2010.
Dr. Linton was born in Korea to missionary parents, and he
returned there in 1953 with his wife, Marjorie, to serve as Christian
missionaries for the next 25 years. He was involved in rural
evangelism work, and also served as President of Honam Theological
Seminary from 1973-1978. Following his return from Korea, he served
the Mission to North America of the Presbyterian Church in America. In
1992, while in retirement, he traveled with the Reverend Billy Graham
and his team to North Korea where he interpreted for him as they met the
late North Korean President Kim Il Sung and spoke in churches and at Kim
Il Sung University. The work of Christian Friends of Korea
grew in part out of the relationships established during that visit, and
in subsequent visits Dwight and others made in the intervening years.
Dwight has served as a CFK board member since 1998.
Dwight’s faith permeated every aspect of his life, and he led
with gentleness, humility and genuine Christian love. His cultural
sensitivities and language abilities contributed greatly to bridging
divides of many kinds. While our hearts deeply grieve
his loss, we also rejoice with him in the reality of his new
circumstances described in 2 Timothy 4:8, “There is laid up for me a
crown of righteousness.”
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, and children Tom Linton
(Ruth), Linda Cass (Jim), Beth Arms (Peter), Chuck Linton (Lori Leinbach),
Sam Linton (Yvonne), eleven grandchildren, and two great-grand children.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to CFK, PO Box 936, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
